As Zimbabwe prepares to roll out the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2), the country is setting ambitious targets to increase exports and attract more investment, building on the economic momentum gained under the first phase of its development blueprint.

Government-affiliated economic institutions are laying the foundation for the next phase of NDS1, which helped propel Zimbabwe’s yearly export earnings over US$7 billion. The goal of this phase is to further socio-economic development and bring the country closer to its Vision 2030 objective of becoming an upper-middle-income economy.

The Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) reports that work is being done to design new policies that will encourage equitable development throughout the nation’s regions and unlock the full potential of national projects.

“Going forward, we shall continue to work with all the relevant agencies in formulating or crafting policies that will have a positive bearing in unlocking the value of projects while ensuring that the level of investment is decentralized in all parts of the country,” said Engineer Silibaziso Chizwina, ZIDA’s Chief Investment Promotion Officer. “The main goal is to accelerate development.”

The NDS2 roadmap is expected to enhance investor confidence through regulatory improvements, decentralized development planning, and more streamlined licensing frameworks. Authorities are optimistic, citing a steady rise in licensed investors and a favorable policy environment as key indicators of future growth.

Analysts point out that NDS2 must give infrastructure, industrial value addition, and export-oriented production top priority while maintaining macroeconomic stability if Zimbabwe is to maintain its export growth and draw in a variety of investments.

NDS2 will be a vital link between economic policy and the goals of common Zimbabweans in every province as the nation moves closer to its 2030 objective.
