This move comes amid rising fears of a potential coup and an escalating power struggle within the ruling ZANU-PF party . Analysts suggest Mnangagwa is acting to consolidate his power and shield himself from potential mutiny . The removal of Sanyatwe, the third such reshuffle by Mnangagwa recently, also occurs with increased political tensions ahead of the 2028 general elections . Some factions within ZANU-PF are reportedly pushing for Constantino Chiwenga to replace Mnangagwa as president .
