The World Health Organization’s (WHO) regional director-elect for Africa, Dr. Faustine Ndugulile, has died in India while undergoing medical treatment. Tanzania’s Speaker of Parliament, Tulia Ackson, confirmed the news on Wednesday, adding that plans to repatriate his body were underway.
Dr. Ndugulile, 55, was elected in August 2024 to lead WHO’s Africa region, a role he was set to assume in February 2025. However, his untimely death has left a significant void in the global health leadership.
