TikTok Launches Phase 2 of SaferTogether Campaign in Nigeria
TikTok has announced the second phase of the TikTok SaferTogether campaign in Nigeria, aiming to improve digital safety.
This phase builds on the success of the first phase, which educated over 1,500 participants across major Nigerian cities.
TikTok is partnering with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Data Science Nigeria (DSN) to extend the program’s reach.
Since 2022, the TikTok SaferTogether campaign has empowered parents, teachers, and guardians with tools to protect young users online. In the first phase, the campaign educated over 537 teachers and 1,037 parents about TikTok’s safety features.
The initiative also focused on promoting positive mental health in the digital environment, helping users navigate online spaces safely.
Expanded Reach of the TikTok SaferTogether Campaign
The second phase of the TikTok SaferTogether campaign expands to new regions, including Edo and Kaduna. It will tackle urgent issues like misinformation, cyberbullying, sexting, digital citizenship, fake news, and child sexual violence.
Workshops will involve a variety of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, government officials, community leaders, parents, teachers, and guardians.
Fortune Mgwili-Sibanda, TikTok’s Director for Government Relations and Public Policy in Africa, emphasized the importance of digital literacy. “Empowering parents, teachers, and guardians with digital literacy skills is crucial for a safer digital environment,” she said.
TikTok’s collaboration with NITDA and DSN ensures these resources reach more individuals, strengthening Nigeria’s digital safety efforts.
Strengthening Digital Safety with NITDA and DSN
TikTok’s partnership with NITDA and DSN is a key part of its strategy to foster digital literacy and enhance cybersecurity in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Dr. Olubayo Adekanmbi, Founder and CEO of DSN, shared his excitement about the ongoing campaign: “We have a shared responsibility to make this space safer. We are excited to continue with the SaferTogether campaign, providing essential insights on digital wellness.”
In this next phase, TikTok will continue to enhance its platform’s safety features, using AI moderation to detect harmful content quickly. The platform has also rolled out stronger privacy settings to give users more control over their digital presence.
