A U.S. congressman, Scott Perryhas alleged that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) indirectly funded Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations. The claim, made during a congressional hearing, has sparked controversy and raised questions about the oversight of international aid programs.
According to the lawmaker, USAID’s funding mechanisms may have inadvertently supported extremist groups operating in conflict zones, including parts of Africa where Boko Haram remains active.
He urged for stricter monitoring and transparency in aid distribution to prevent funds from falling into the wrong hands.
USAID has not yet responded to the allegations, but previous reports have indicated that humanitarian organizations working in high-risk regions face challenges in ensuring aid does not get diverted. The claims come amid increasing scrutiny of foreign aid programs and their impact on global security.
