Abuja, Nigeria – Abdourahamane Diallo, the Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to Nigeria, has been appointed as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Congo by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Hailing from Niger Republic, Diallo brings over 20 years of development expertise to his new role. Before this appointment, he served as UNESCO’s Representative to Nigeria, spearheading initiatives in education, sciences, culture, and communication.
Diallo’s extensive experience includes leading UNESCO’s efforts in various African countries. He was previously Head of Office and Representative of UNESCO in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (2009–2013), Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (2014–2018), and Accra, Ghana (2018–2023).
Diallo began his career at UNESCO headquarters in Paris as a member of Niger’s permanent delegation. By 2002, he transitioned into the Africa department as a program specialist, overseeing cooperation with the African Union and regional African organizations.
In 2006, he led the department’s Section for Regional Organizations and Post-Conflict Situations, focusing on crisis recovery and collaboration with African Regional Economic Communities.
Diallo holds a degree in Industrial Computer Engineering from Hautes Etudes Industrielles in Lille, France, and an MBA in International Business Engineering from Institut Supérieur de Gestion in Paris.
