This decision has already impacted South Africa’s economy, with the rand experiencing a 1.9% decline following the announcement. The suspension of aid raises concerns about the future of bilateral relations and the potential effects on ongoing projects funded by U.S. assistance. 
President Cyril Ramaphosa recently signed the expropriation bill into law, aiming to address historical land inequalities by allowing the government to expropriate land without compensation under specific conditions.
