Marsa Alam, Egypt – A tragic shark attack off the coast of Marsa Alam, a popular tourist destination in Egypt’s Red Sea, has resulted in the death of one tourist and injuries to another.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, took place outside of the designated swimming area, according to the Egyptian Environment Ministry.
While the ministry did not specify the nationalities of the victims, the AFP news agency reported that the deceased was a 48-year-old Italian resident of Rome, and the injured tourist was a 69-year-old Italian man.
Both victims were transported to a hospital in Port Ghalib, located approximately 30 miles north of Marsa Alam. Following the attack, the swimming area has been temporarily closed, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
