The 17th edition of The Headies Awards, Nigeria’s premier music award ceremony, is scheduled to take place on April 27, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos. This event aims to honor outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry, spotlighting the nation’s vibrant musical talent.
Originally planned for 2024, the ceremony experienced delays due to unforeseen logistical challenges. The organizers have since confirmed the new date, ensuring a celebration that reflects the dynamism and growth of Nigerian music. This year’s awards feature over 31 categories, including two new additions: ‘Soundtrack of the Year’ and ‘Best Performer (Live).’ The ‘Soundtrack of the Year’ category recognizes songs written and composed specifically for motion pictures or series, while ‘Best Performer (Live)’ honors artists with outstanding live performances captured in officially released videos.
Leading the nominations are artists Rema, Ayra Starr, and Davido, each securing seven nods. Rema’s nominations include ‘Afrobeat Album of the Year,’ ‘Headies Viewers’ Choice,’ and ‘Album of the Year.’ Ayra Starr is recognized in categories such as ‘Best R&B Performance,’ ‘Best Vocal Performance (Female),’ and ‘Artist of the Year.’ Davido’s nominations span ‘Best Collaboration,’ ‘Digital Artist of the Year,’ and ‘Song of the Year.’
