Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has secured the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards held on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Her song “Love Me JeJe” earned her this accolade, marking her second Grammy win.
In this category, Tems competed against notable tracks including “Tomorrow” by Yemi Alade, “MMS” by Asake featuring Wizkid, “Sensational” by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and “Higher” by Burna Boy.
Tems received three nominations at this year’s Grammys, bringing her career total to eight. She was also nominated for Best Global Music Album for “Born in the Wild” and Best R&B Song for “Burning.”
The Best African Music Performance category was introduced in 2024, with South Africa’s Tyla winning the inaugural award for her hit “Water.”
Tems’ continued success at the Grammys highlights her significant impact on the global music scene and underscores the rising prominence of African artists in international music.
