Ongoing Rescue Operations in the recent Tanzania building collapse
Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa pledged unwavering support for the rescue mission, emphasizing, “We will not stop until all victims are found and brought to safety.” Supplies, including food and water, are being sent to those still trapped, as teams work around the clock to save lives.
In addition, local authorities have initiated a thorough inspection of nearby buildings to ensure their safety, following concerns over construction standards in the area.
Also, President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced an audit of Kariakoo’s structures and ordered an investigation into the ownership and construction permits of the collapsed building. She assured the public that medical costs for the injured would be fully covered by the government.
Futhermore, eyewitnesses and residents expressed growing concerns about the frequent occurrence of building collapses, particularly during the rainy season. A local resident told the BBC, “We are very worried. This is not the first time such an incident has happened, and it feels like no lessons are being learned.”
Investigations into the cause of the collapse are underway. Structural violations are often cited in similar incidents across Tanzania, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement of building regulations.
