At least 89 civilians have been killed in Sudan following a brutal paramilitary attack on villages south of Omdurman, near the capital Khartoum. The assault, reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has sparked international condemnation as the country’s humanitarian crisis worsens.

Eyewitnesses and rights groups say the RSF used heavy artillery and automatic gunfire, targeting residential areas. In addition to the deaths, hundreds were wounded, and many homes were looted. Reports indicate that young men were forcibly taken and used to transport stolen goods.

The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has devastated Sudan, displacing over 14 million people and causing severe food shortages. The latest attack is part of a broader pattern of violence that has seen civilians bear the brunt of the fighting.
