According to state TV, Sudan’s army is close to taking back the Presidential Palace in Khartoum from the RSF, which would be a big change in the country’s ongoing conflict.
Fierce fighting broke out near the palace late Wednesday, with people hearing blasts and seeing the army use airstrikes in downtown Khartoum. The RSF, which has controlled the palace since the beginning of the conflict, is now surrounded as the army takes over important areas.
The fighting that started in Sudan in April 2023 after a takeover stopped the country from becoming a civilian-led government has caused major problems for people. Both sides have been blamed for human rights violations, making life even harder for millions of people.
The international community continues to call for an end to the hostilities, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian aid and a return to peace.
