In a historic achievement, South African model Tshego Gaelae has been crowned Mrs World 2025, marking the first time a Black woman has won the title. The 40th Mrs World pageant took place on January 31, 2025, at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino in the USA.
Gaelae, 33, hails from Centurion in Tshwane and was previously honored as Mrs South Africa. Following her victory, she expressed her gratitude on Instagram, stating, “To God Be The Glory. Thank you so much for the love and support, I am beyond grateful and elated! My beautiful South Africa, the crown is coming Home.”
The Mrs World organization, established in 1984, is the first beauty pageant for married women, celebrating their achievements and contributions. Gaelae’s win is a significant milestone, as she becomes the first Black woman to hold the title. 
The Mrs South Africa organization celebrated her accomplishment, stating, “From Soweto to Vegas and now the World, @mrsworldpageant The Crown is Coming Home! Thank you to everyone who supported our Queen on her incredible Journey.”
Gaelae dedicated her victory to the memory of her niece, who passed away earlier in the week, adding a personal and poignant note to her triumph.
This victory not only brings pride to South Africa but also signifies a step forward in the representation and recognition of Black women in global pageantry.
