The arrests occurred during a meticulously planned operation led by the Mission Area Joint Operational Center (MAJOC) Roving team. This team comprised combat operators, proactive officers, and participants from Operation Valu uMgodi. The crackdown targeted several notorious hotspots, including the Stone and Allied area, Bambanani SS1 Slam Dam, Kudu Mine Shaft, Stilte Farm, and G-Hostel in Thabong Extension 4. The authorities employed a combination of foot patrols, vehicle patrols, air-to-ground drone surveillance, and vehicle checkpoints to ensure the operation’s success.
Seized Items
During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated 132.52 kilograms of gold-bearing material. Additionally, they seized various mining tools, including steel balls, garden spades, shovels, pickaxes, steel plates, buckets, and washing basins. These items are believed to have been used in the illegal extraction and processing of minerals.
Legal Proceedings
The individuals arrested, aged between 26 and 40, face multiple charges. These include possession of suspected gold-bearing material, illegal possession of gold processing equipment, trespassing, and violations of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear in court soon to address these allegations.
