Cape Town, South Africa – South Africa secured a decisive 10-wicket victory against Pakistan in the second Test, clinching the series 2-0 despite a spirited second-innings fightback from the visitors at Newlands Stadium.
After being forced to follow on with a first-innings deficit of 421 runs, Pakistan showcased resilience, amassing 478 in their second innings. Captain Shan Masood led the effort with a commendable 145, marking Pakistan’s highest score against South Africa in Test cricket.
South Africa, however, needed only 7.1 overs to chase down a target of 58 late on Monday, with David Bedingham smashing an unbeaten 44 off 30 balls to finish the game. The win also reinforces South Africa’s place in the upcoming World Test Championship final.

Masood reflected on the match with optimism, acknowledging his team’s patches of brilliance despite the loss. “We didn’t start well with the ball and bat, but the fightback was encouraging. Individuals stepped up, and there’s hope for better performances ahead,” he said, highlighting Pakistan’s upcoming home series against the West Indies on January 17.
While South Africa celebrated their dominant form, Pakistan rued their first-innings collapse and lapses in consistency, elements they aim to address in future contests.
