The Senegalese government has declared its intention to compensate families of individuals who lost their lives during political unrest between 2021 and 2024. Each bereaved family is set to receive 10 million CFA francs (approximately $15,800).

Maimouna Dieye, the Minister of Family and Solidarity, confirmed that 79 fatalities occurred during this period. In addition to financial compensation, the government will provide health coverage and social support to the victims’ families, with a particular focus on children under 18.

Furthermore, over 2,000 individuals who were detained during the unrest will receive a lump sum of 500,000 CFA francs (around $790) each. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to address the consequences of the political turmoil that threatened Senegal’s reputation for democratic stability.
