Sao Tome – Prime Minister Ilza Amado Vaz of Sao Tome and Principe submitted her resignation to President Carlos Vila Nova on Sunday, citing the premature release of her proposed cabinet list to the public before informing the president.
This resignation further escalates the political crisis that erupted following President Vila Nova’s decision to dissolve the previous government led by Patrice Trovoada.
Amado Vaz, appointed as Prime Minister on Thursday, was tasked with submitting the structure and names of her proposed government by Saturday. 
However, the proposed cabinet list was prematurely leaked to the public, undermining her authority and creating further political instability.
In her resignation letter, Amado Vaz emphasized that her continued leadership would not be conducive to the success of public policies and the harmonious development of the nation.
She stressed the importance of stability, strong institutional collaboration, and parliamentary support for achieving these objectives.
The premature release of the cabinet list, attributed to the ruling Independent Democratic Action Party (ADI), to which both President Vila Nova and former Prime Minister Trovoada belong, has further exacerbated the political tensions.
The dissolution of the previous government by President Vila Nova has sparked significant controversy. Former Prime Minister Trovoada has challenged the president’s decision as unconstitutional, and the ADI has filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court.
The political instability in Sao Tome and Principe continues to unfold, with the resignation of Prime Minister Amado Vaz adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing crisis.
