In partnership with Globacom and Huawei Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy is spearheading the project, which will offer digital healthcare, free public Wi-Fi, 2G/3G/4G services, and remote learning capabilities to over 12,000 community members.

The Federal Government’s goal of providing digital access to 7,000 remote communities across the country began on Wednesday with the groundbreaking of the pilot project in Isuanin Kura in Ibwa 2, Gwagwalada, on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, praised Globacom and Huawei for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s determination to solve the connection issue that impacts more than 20 million Nigerians who do not currently have access to basic telecommunications.

The Managing Director of Huawei Nigerian Enterprises, Mr. Terrens Wu, said in his speech that his company is proud to be supporting efforts to use digital technology to improve healthcare and education in rural areas and to provide connections. The company also gave the community 120 affordable smartphones so they could have access to phones.

With the support of industry leaders like Globacom and Huawei, and the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to digital equity, this initiative sets the stage for transformative change in education, healthcare, and economic opportunity for underserved communities.
