President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja today for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the highly anticipated 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit. His presence at the Summit underscores Nigeria’s growing engagement on the global stage.

This year’s gathering, themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will focus on pressing issues such as eradicating hunger and poverty, reforming global governance structures, sustainable development, and transitioning to cleaner energy. The Summit, scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2024, will feature leaders from the world’s largest economies, alongside representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and key multilateral institutions.

In a statement released earlier today, Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga emphasized the importance of Tinubu’s attendance, noting that it was at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently presides over the G20.

“This is an opportunity for Nigeria to further its socio-economic goals while strengthening bilateral ties with other global powers,” Onanuga stated.

  • Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development
  • Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity
  • Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security
  • Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency
