After a year-long delay, Nigeria is finally set to receive a long-awaited shipment of leprosy drugs, a move expected to significantly bolster efforts to combat the disease in affected communities. The delay was attributed to persistent supply chain challenges and logistical hurdles, which have now been overcome through coordinated efforts between government agencies and international partners.
Health officials emphasize that the timely delivery of these drugs is critical for providing effective treatment, reducing the spread of leprosy, and alleviating the social stigma that has long burdened patients. With Nigeria recording thousands of new leprosy cases each year, the resumption of drug supply is seen as a major step forward in addressing public health challenges.
