Taraba State’s public sector workers are set to receive a significant wage boost after Governor Agbu Kefas approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000, effective November 2024. This move, announced by the Head of Service, Paul Maigida, demonstrates the Kefas administration’s commitment to alleviating the economic challenges faced by state employees amid rising living costs.
“I wish to inform you that His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 new minimum wage for workers in Taraba State, effective from November 2024,” Maigida confirmed in the statement released Wednesday.

This adjustment comes as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) ramps up pressure on states yet to comply with the new national minimum wage standard. The NLC has announced a planned strike for December 1, targeting states that have not adjusted to the wage benchmark, accusing some governors of neglecting workers’ rights. The union emphasized that timely and adequate compensation is crucial for easing the financial strain on public sector workers.
The wage increase has been met with enthusiasm among Taraba’s civil servants, who expressed relief, noting that the new wage could significantly improve their ability to meet financial obligations and cope with economic pressures.
