In a recent development aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, Nigeria and Namibia are actively exploring the establishment of direct air links to facilitate smoother travel and bolster trade and investment between the two nations. This initiative emerges in response to existing visa challenges that have hindered seamless movement for citizens of both countries.
Discussions on Direct Flights:
During a meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Humphrey Geiseb, deliberated on the prospects of restoring direct flights between Nigeria and Namibia. Ambassador Geiseb revealed that the Namibian government is in talks with Air Peace, a prominent Nigerian airline, to establish direct air connectivity between the two countries. He also indicated Namibia’s openness to collaborating with other Nigerian carriers to achieve this objective. 
Addressing Visa Hurdles:
Minister Keyamo highlighted the pressing need to address visa-related obstacles that have impeded travel between Nigeria and Namibia. He recounted his own recent difficulties in obtaining a Namibian visa, despite holding a diplomatic passport, underscoring the urgency of resolving these issues. Keyamo advocated for the introduction of a visa-on-arrival policy for Nigerians traveling to Namibia, aiming to promote smoother travel experiences and enhance bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA):
Both officials acknowledged the importance of revisiting and updating the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement to reflect current realities and facilitate the proposed direct flights. This move is expected to lay a solid foundation for sustainable air connectivity and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
