The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has intercepted 13 Nigerian girls at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as they attempted to travel to Iraq under suspicious circumstances. The agency suspects the girls were being trafficked for forced labor or exploitation.
According to NAPTIP, the interception was made during a routine security check, with officials noting red flags in their travel documents and arrangements.
Investigations have begun to uncover the network behind the trafficking scheme, while the rescued girls are receiving counseling and rehabilitation.
NAPTIP has warned Nigerians against falling for fake overseas job offers, urging vigilance and reporting of suspected trafficking activities.
