An enchanting art exhibition in Morocco pays tribute to the vibrant city of Tangiers, capturing its iconic port, historic mosques, and bustling old markets.
Hosted at the Villa Harris Museum, the exhibition showcases works by foreign artists who were captivated by Tangiers during the 19th and early 20th centuries. “The collection highlights the strong relationship between Tangiers and the visual arts,” explains curator Majda Amellal.

Visitors are welcomed with a quote from French artist Eugène Delacroix, describing Tangiers as a “place made for painters” where “beauty runs through the streets.”

The exhibition features 30 paintings depicting key landmarks in the Moroccan port city, including works by British painter George Owen Apperley, Spanish artist Simonet Lombardo, and Moroccan painter Rachid Hanbali.
“This exhibition explores Tangiers’ history, allowing Moroccans today to connect with the city’s rich past,” Amellal adds.

The show, which opened earlier this month, runs until May 19, offering a unique glimpse into the artistic heritage of one of Morocco’s most storied cities.
