Libya and Nigeria are deepening their energy ties with renewed discussions on a strategic natural gas partnership that could significantly impact regional development and global energy supply.
Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul-Sadig, met with Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, on the sidelines of the OPEC Global Seminar in Vienna. The two ministers explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation, with a strong focus on natural gas projects that could benefit both nations and the broader region.
A key topic of discussion was the proposed gas pipeline project linking Libya and Nigeria. The project, once realized, would provide a direct channel for exporting gas to European markets, positioning both countries as major players in global energy distribution.
Beyond the economic prospects, the ministers emphasized the importance of the pipeline in reinforcing global energy security. They acknowledged the strategic role that Libya and Nigeria can play in stabilizing energy supplies and promoting regional cooperation across North and West Africa.
Practical steps for implementing the project were also reviewed, with both sides agreeing on the urgency of moving forward. The collaboration marks a significant step toward integrating African energy networks and leveraging the continent’s vast natural gas reserves to meet international demand.
