The 18th edition of The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) turned the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, into a radiant celebration of young African trailblazers. Recognizing exceptional individuals from fields as diverse as arts, technology, activism, and entrepreneurship, this year’s event honored those driving progress and innovation across the continent.
Hosted by the acclaimed fashion entrepreneur Veekee James and Tunde Onakoya, the founder of Chess in Slums, the ceremony showcased the energy and talent of African youth, underscoring TFAA’s mission to highlight the visionaries shaping the future of Africa.
The evening’s entertainment captivated attendees with spoken word by Ibquake, violin performances by C Jay, and high-energy acts from dance group Charachoros. The Loud Urban Choir, Taves, Savy Henry, and Teekay Classic kept the atmosphere vibrant, while comedian Kojah Kaze entertained the crowd with laughter.
Layi Wasabi was one of the night’s standout winners, taking home the Content Creation Award. In an emotional acceptance speech, he shared, “This award is special to me because it doesn’t just recognise what you’ve already done but acknowledges the future possibilities you have.”
Genoveva Umeh, celebrated as Best Actor of the Year, encouraged the audience, saying, “Put God first in everything you do,” while highlighting the role of kindness and resilience in her journey.
The diverse lineup of winners included figures from across the African continent. In categories spanning education, journalism, content creation, innovation, and music, each award recipient exemplified the spirit of progress.
Notable mentions included BNXN for music, Victor Boniface in sports, and Zainab Bala in journalism, all making remarkable strides in their respective industries.
