The newly elected President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the country into a vibrant, 24-hour economy centered on agriculture and agribusiness.
In his inaugural address during the swearing-in ceremony on January 7, 2024, Mahama expressed his determination to unlock Ghana’s untapped potential. He outlined plans to create a resilient and inclusive economic model that empowers citizens while attracting global investments.
Mahama described a vision of bustling markets operating round the clock, thriving businesses with flexible operations, and essential public services available at all hours.
He emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, “Imagine a Ghana where every citizen, regardless of their background, can actively contribute to our national progress. This vision is not just about economic transactions but about empowerment—empowering every Ghanaian to enjoy the fruits of their hard work.”
The President highlighted that this 24-hour economy would not only meet the diverse demands of modern life but also stimulate job creation for the youth, support local industries, and position Ghana as a hub for international trade.
He urged business leaders and entrepreneurs to back the 24-hour economy model, promising a fair and transparent tax regime to foster innovation and investment. Mahama further assured stakeholders of a business-friendly environment, boldly declaring, “Ghana is open for business again.”
The swearing-in ceremony was graced by local and international dignitaries who commended Mahama’s ambitious economic agenda, signaling optimism for Ghana’s transformative journey.
