The Chicago Sky has announced the appointment of Rena Wakama, the head coach of the Nigerian women’s national basketball team (D’Tigress), as an assistant coach . Wakama will join Head Coach Tyler Marsh’s staff
This is a historic moment as Wakama made history in 2023 as the first female head coach to lead a team to victory at the FIBA AfroBasket tournament . She also became the first Nigerian National Female Basketball Team coach to win the FIBA AfroBasket . 
Wakama joins Courtney Paris and Tanisha Wright as assistant coaches for the 2025 WNBA season, which begins in May . The Chicago Sky’s roster includes rising stars like Angel Reese , and Wakama’s expertise is expected to be a valuable asset to the team .
