ACCRA, GHANA — John Dramani Mahama officially assumed office on January 7, 2025, as President of the Republic of Ghana, pledging a transformative agenda centered on economic restoration, business opportunities, constitutional reforms, and accountability.

Economic Restoration: A Priority for Ghana’s Growth
In his inaugural address, President Mahama identified economic restoration and macroeconomic stability as the core focus of his administration. He emphasized creating a conducive business environment to stimulate growth and position Ghana as a hub for investments.
His proposed reforms include rationalizing the tax regime to promote transparency and foster entrepreneurship.
“We will focus our initial efforts on four critical areas: economic restoration, a favorable investment environment, governance and constitutional reforms, and accountability in the fight against corruption,” Mahama stated.
Advancing Gender Equality in Ghana
The inauguration also marked a historic milestone for gender equality with the swearing-in of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female Vice President.
President Mahama lauded this achievement as a symbol of progress, stating, “This milestone reaffirms our dedication to breaking barriers and fostering inclusivity.”

Ghana in a Shifting Global Landscape
Mahama underscored the need for Ghana to adapt to changing global dynamics, spotlighting the decline in the G7’s economic influence and the rise of BRICS nations.
“In 2023, the BRICS nations accounted for 37.3% of world GDP, and their influence is set to grow. Ghana must position itself strategically in this geopolitical shift,” he affirmed.
Regional Collaboration and Climate Preparedness
The President called for strengthening ties with neighboring countries to foster stability and regional growth.
He also addressed the urgent need for climate resilience and enhanced public health systems to prepare for future crises. “The next pandemic must find us ready, minimizing the loss of lives in Ghana,” he asserted.

A Collective Call to Action
President Mahama concluded his address with a rallying call to all Ghanaians to join in the nation’s transformation. “This journey belongs to all of us. Together, we can reset our institutions and our faith in Ghana,” he said.
