Zamfara, Nigeria – A new wave of kidnappings has swept through Nigeria’s northwestern state of Zamfara, with armed bandits abducting dozens of women and children.
The latest incident occurred in the village of Kafin Dawa, where assailants armed with assault rifles stormed homes, seizing victims. Local residents reported that over 50 women and girls were taken captive during the attack.
Northwest Nigeria has become a hotspot for criminal activities, particularly kidnappings for ransom. Armed groups, known locally as bandits, have exploited the region’s vulnerabilities, targeting schools, villages, and individuals for abduction.
This recent incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing security crisis in the region. In 2014, the infamous Boko Haram abduction of 276 schoolgirls in Chibok brought global attention to the issue. Since then, thousands of children have been kidnapped in similar attacks.
Despite increased security measures, the persistent threat of banditry continues to disrupt communities and undermine development efforts in the region.
