The Ethiopian government has successfully repatriated 164 citizens from Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, due to the prevailing security situation in the country.  

Teyiba Hassen, Director-General of the Refugees and Returnees Service, along with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the returning citizens at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa on Monday.

This repatriation effort underscores the Ethiopian government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens living abroad, particularly in regions facing security challenges.

In October 2024, the Ethiopian government conducted a similar repatriation operation, bringing home 51 nationals from Lebanon.

The Ethiopian government has been actively working to repatriate citizens from various countries experiencing security and political instability.  

Data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) indicates that Ethiopians constitute a significant portion of the migrant population in Lebanon.

This repatriation effort highlights the Ethiopian government’s proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by its citizens living abroad and ensuring their safe return to their homeland.
