The Enugu State Government has unveiled a 20-hectare pilot cocoa plantation, marking a significant step in its drive to boost agribusiness, economic diversification, and export revenue. The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalize agriculture, create jobs, and position Enugu as a key player in Nigeria’s cocoa production sector.
Governor Peter Mbah emphasized that the project aligns with the state’s agenda to reduce dependence on oil revenue and explore agriculture as a sustainable economic driver.
The plantation is expected to enhance local production capacity, attract investors, and boost exports of one of Nigeria’s top cash crops. 
Experts predict that with proper investment in modern farming techniques, processing facilities, and value chain development, Enugu could emerge as a significant contributor to Nigeria’s cocoa output, further strengthening the country’s position as one of the world’s largest cocoa producers.
