Moroccan mobility startup Enakl has secured $1.4 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Catalyst Fund.
This funding supports its mission to revolutionize urban transit in Africa through sustainable, shared transport solutions.
The startup plans to enhance technology and expand services within Morocco and across Africa, addressing the challenges of urbanization.
Enakl Pre-Seed Funding Fuels Innovation
Founded in September 2023 by Samir Bennani and Charles Pommarede, Enakl focuses on providing pre-planned shared transit options for urban commuters. Later joined by Ahmed Omrane as CTO, the startup combines technology and sustainability to transform daily commutes.
The $1.4 million funding, led by Catalyst Fund with support from Renew Capital, Digital Africa, and others, positions Enakl to deepen its impact in Casablanca.
“This funding allows us to expand our reach and develop our technology, leveraging AI to optimize routes,” shared co-founders Bennani and Pommarede.
Scaling Shared Transit Across Africa
Enakl’s innovative bus-sharing service already manages over 15,000 ride bookings monthly, with a 20% growth rate. The startup lowers carbon emissions and traffic by providing reasonably-priced and environmentally-friendly substitutes.
Catalyst Fund’s Operating Partner, Maxime Bayen, highlighted Enakl’s importance: “By reducing emissions and congestion through tech-driven shared transport, Enakl addresses urbanization’s challenges while enhancing accessibility.”
The company’s expansion plan targets African cities, aiming to improve urban mobility where overcrowded public buses and inconsistent schedules create daily challenges.
Why Enakl Pre-Seed Funding Matters
In addition to helping individual commuters, Enakl’s scalable methodology supports international environmental objectives.
Adam Abate, CEO of Renew Capital, remarked, “Collective transport solutions like Enakl’s are key to solving urban mobility challenges across Africa.”
Additionally, Enakl collaborates with corporations and local transport operators to ensure cost-effective and reliable commuting options for employees. This approach helps organizations lower carbon footprints while improving employee satisfaction.
Driving a Greener Future in Urban Mobility
Enakl’s pre-seed funding paves the way for sustainable transit solutions across Africa. By blending innovation and affordability, the startup stands out in Morocco’s small but growing ride-sharing market, valued at $4.15 million in 2024.
“This milestone helps us create impactful changes in urban transit while scaling across Africa,” said Bennani.
