Cairo, April 7, 2025 — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi has issued a renewed call for the immediate resumption of a ceasefire in Gaza, as violence continues to escalate in the besieged Palestinian territory. In a statement released Monday, El-Sissi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to restoring peace, preserving human life, and facilitating humanitarian aid to civilians caught in the crossfire.

Speaking during a high-level meeting with Arab League officials in Cairo, El-Sissi urged both Israeli and Palestinian leadership to exercise restraint, citing the mounting civilian casualties and regional instability. He stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable solution to the long-standing conflict and called on the international community to support mediation efforts and uphold international humanitarian law.

Egypt, a traditional mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has played a pivotal role in past ceasefire negotiations. Cairo has kept its Rafah border crossing partially open for humanitarian purposes, allowing the delivery of food, medical aid, and evacuation of the wounded. However, recent hostilities have hindered relief efforts, with aid groups warning of a looming catastrophe.

El-Sissi also reiterated Egypt’s call for a two-state solution, asserting that peace and stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved without a just and lasting resolution for the Palestinian people. His remarks follow growing calls across Africa and the Arab world for an end to the bloodshed and the protection of civilians.

As Egypt pushes for renewed dialogue, its leadership highlights Africa’s growing voice in advocating for peace and stability in global crises. With the humanitarian toll rising, El-Sissi’s message serves as both a diplomatic appeal and a regional call to action.
