Egypt will receive 4 billion euros in budgetary assistance from the EU, aimed at optimizing the structural reforms currently underway in the country. Egypt will be receiving this investment as part of the EU’s macroeconomic support.

This assistance reflects a mutual interest between Egypt and the EU to deepen their strategic partnership. This aid will help Egypt reduce its public deficit and enhance its macroeconomic stability. Discussions were also held between European Commissioner for International Partnerships Joseph Sikela, and Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat focused on directions for green transition, synergies with the “Team Europe” initiative, and support for Egypt’s NWFE (Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy) program, a key component of the country’s climate adaptation efforts.

The 4 billion euro investment is a part of a larger €7.4 billion aid package from the EU to Egypt for 2024-2027, the aid package also comprises concessional loans, additional investments, and grants. Both parties have pledged to ensure that financing for of an upcoming technical assessment mission will be achieved with full impact. This strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU is a fundamental pillar of Egypt’s sustainable development strategy.
