The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has solidified its position as a strategic copper supplier for China, reinforcing its role in the global mining and energy transition. With demand for copper surging due to its use in electric vehicles, renewable energy, and advanced technology, China is deepening its ties with the DRC to secure a steady supply of the essential metal.
The DRC, home to some of the world’s richest copper and cobalt reserves, has seen a significant influx of Chinese investment in recent years. Companies such as China Molybdenum and Zijin Mining have expanded operations, acquiring stakes in key mining projects like Tenke Fungurume and Kamoa-Kakula, some of the world’s largest copper mines.
