Nairobi, Kenya, recently came alive with excitement as the grand finale of the 2024 edition of Africa’s Next Super Model captivated audiences at the Broadwalk Mall. Among 18 gifted contestants from across the continent, Chol Nyang dazzled her way to victory, earning the prestigious title.
The runway star’s triumph came with a $5,000 cash prize and the opportunity to represent Africa on the international fashion stage. Nyang will be joined by Magdalene Takanyiro, another standout finalist, in Milan come February 2025, where they’ll showcase African talent on a global platform.
This remarkable competition, now in its second year, was conceived by Joan Okorodudu, CEO of Isis Models Africa, as a way to elevate Nairobi’s status as a global fashion hub and empower young African talents. Okorodudu’s vision has already made waves, with several past participants signing contracts with renowned agencies in fashion capitals like Paris, New York, and London.
Prominent figures such as Timothy Owase, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, and Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, attended the event. Both lauded the modeling industry’s potential to boost Africa’s creative economy and expressed their support for such initiatives.
With Nyang’s victory, a new chapter opens for African fashion. The competition continues to stand as a beacon of opportunity, placing Africa firmly on the global fashion map.
