Harare, Zimbabwe — The Chinese community in Zimbabwe welcomed the upcoming Year of the Snake with a vibrant cultural event at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare.
Featuring traditional music, dance, martial arts, and acrobatics performed by both Chinese and Zimbabwean artists, the celebration underscored the deep cultural connection between the two nations.
Speaking at the gathering, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding described the Spring Festival as a time for family reunions and the sharing of love and blessings. Zhou highlighted the shared value both nations place on preserving cultural heritage, calling it a vital source of inspiration and strength in addressing global challenges.

Reflecting on the progress of bilateral relations, Zhou described 2024 as a “year of bumper harvest” for the China-Zimbabwe partnership, citing completed infrastructural projects funded by Chinese financial and private sector support. He emphasized that the festivities also celebrated the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

The event was attended by a large number of expatriates and local audiences, who enjoyed a display of traditional Spring Festival customs, including authentic Chinese cuisine. Attendees marveled at the richness and vibrancy of the culture, with many expressing admiration for its global significance.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization recognizes the Spring Festival as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. This year, the Spring Festival falls on January 29, marking the start of the Year of the Snake.
