A raging wildfire near Cape Town, South Africa, has forced the evacuation of nearly 200 households, including 48 residents requiring special care, from neighborhoods including Noordhoek Manor, Steenberg Estate and Zwaanswyk. The fire broke out in the Tokai area of Table Mountain National Park and has been fueled by thick, dry vegetation.
Over 100 firefighters are battling at least five active fire lines across the region. The City’s Disaster Risk Management (DRM) department is assisting with evacuations. As of April 29, 2025, the fire continues to rage, with over 3,000 hectares of vegetation destroyed. Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, with some suggestions that it may have been started deliberately.
