George Foreman, the famous boxer who won the heavyweight title twice and became a successful businessman, has passed away at 76. His family announced on March 21, 2025, that he died quietly with his family around him.

Born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, Foreman rose from a challenging upbringing to become an iconic figure in boxing. He clinched a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics before turning professional, where he amassed an impressive record of 76 wins, including 68 knockouts, and only five losses.

Foreman’s career is best known for his surprising win against Joe Frazier in 1973, which made him the world heavyweight champion. However, many remember him for his 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” fight with Muhammad Ali, where he lost.

After stopping boxing for a short time, Foreman made an amazing return in 1994 at 45 years old. He won back the heavyweight title by beating Michael Moorer, becoming the oldest boxer to ever be world heavyweight champion.

Beyond the ring, Foreman became a successful entrepreneur, notably endorsing the George Foreman Grill, which sold over 100 million units worldwide. He also served as an ordained minister and philanthropist, dedicating much of his life to his community.

Tributes have poured in from around the world, with fellow boxing legend Mike Tyson expressing his sorrow, stating, “My heart breaks.”

Foreman is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Martelly, and his 12 children. His family has requested privacy during this time of mourning.
