Nigerian singer, and Afrobeats star Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, better known by her stage name Ayra Starr, has made history by winning the Best International Act at the 2025 BET Awards . The 2025 BET Awards, which honor Black excellence in music, film, sports, and culture, took place on Monday, June 9 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, USA.
The 22-year-old Marvin Records artist was among the many celebrities honored for their contributions to Black excellence in music, and she is now the youngest Nigerian to win the BET Best International Act category. 
Since her initial nomination in 2022, she has received nominations in multiple categories, including Best New International Act (2022), Best International Act (2023), BET Her Award (2024 for “Commas”), and three categories in 2025.
Ayra Starr’s historic win at the 2025 BET Awards not only marks a milestone in her rising global career but also signals a new era for Afrobeats and African music on the international stage. As the youngest Nigerian to ever receive the Best International Act award, her journey from first-time nominee to trailblazer reflects the growing impact of African artists in shaping global pop culture.
