In a decisive move towards resolving the ongoing conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angolan President João Lourenço has called for a ceasefire to commence at midnight on March 16, 2025.
This initiative aims to create a conducive environment for the upcoming peace talks between the DRC government and the M23 rebel group, scheduled to begin on March 18 in Luanda, Angola.

The conflict in the mineral-rich eastern DRC has intensified in recent months, leading to significant humanitarian concerns. The ceasefire is expected to halt hostilities, protect civilians, and prevent further territorial advancements by any party, thereby setting the stage for constructive dialogue.
The international community watches closely, hopeful that this ceasefire and the subsequent negotiations will lead to a lasting peace in the region.
