South African authorities have successfully rescued American missionary pastor Josh Sullivan, who was kidnapped during a church service in Motherwell township, Eastern Cape. The dramatic abduction occurred earlier this week, shocking local residents and drawing international attention.
Sullivan, known for his outreach and humanitarian work in disadvantaged communities, was taken by armed assailants mid-sermon and held for ransom. Law enforcement agencies, working closely with intelligence units, tracked the kidnappers and launched a coordinated operation that led to Sullivan’s release within 72 hours.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Thembeka Mbele confirmed that no ransom was paid, and several suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. Sullivan was found unharmed but understandably shaken. He has since been reunited with his local congregation and is receiving psychological support. 
The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria has thanked South African officials for their swift and professional response, emphasizing the importance of cross-border cooperation in handling such security threats.
