Afrobeats music icon Wizkid has made his film festival debut with the documentary Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, which premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
The 83-minute documentary follows Wizkid’s journey from Lagos to international stages, featuring both his evolution as an artist and the broader cultural shift he helped pioneer with Afrobeats, bringing the authentic, African-focused genre to the world stage and making it now a fixture of the global pop conversation. The film features footage of concerts, interviews, and clips giving an insight into the life and work of the Musical icon. The film will also showcase Wizkid’s artistic processes and his journey as the artist who reshaped how the world sees Africa and the African sound. It acknowledges the complexities of fame, legacy, and the responsibility that comes with global influence.

Femi Kuti, Sunday Are, Jada Pollock, Julia Adenuga, Matthew Temitope Solomon, Karen Binns, Adosu Segan, and Seni Saraki are among a number of the impactful voices featured in the documentary to provide historical and cultural context to the larger canvas of Wizkid’s story.
The documentary is produced by Gill and Daniel Malikyar, and it is distributed in the U.S. by HBO Documentary Films. It will be shown live across screens in Lagos on the 6th and 7th of June and on New York screens on the 11th of June.
