It is well known that the African continent is rich in history, culture, and traditions, however, its richness in impactful innovations that have had an impact all over the globe is not as well known. Many innovations that have had a significant impact in shaping modern society and civilization were African innovations, from ancient tools to modern technologies. Africa has made immense contributions, some of which we will explore in this article.
Mathematics and Geometry.
One major African innovation is mathematics. The ancient Egyptian mathematics was developed between 3000 BCE and 300 BCE, the foundational mathematical principles innovated by the Egyptians also included geometry, which was a key component in the building of the pyramids. 
Furthermore, the Ishango bone, a 20,000-year-old artifact, is considered one of the earliest mathematical tools. The tool, which was discovered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the tool featured markings that suggested an understanding of multiplication and division, two core mathematical concepts.
CTA SCAN Technology.
The Computed Tomography (CT) scan is widely considered a revolutionary invention in the world of diagnostic medicine and the entire medical field in general. This medical wonder, used in enabling detailed cross-sectional imaging of the human body, was innovated by Allan MacLeod Cormack, a South African physicist. His work earned him a Nobel Prize in 1979, and to this day, the CT machine is a staple in medical treatment and facilities worldwide.
Writing Scripts and Systems
Africa is home to many early systems that are still utilized to this day, one of which is the writing system. From ancient Egyptians who made use of hieroglyphics for documentation of their lives, religion, and history to the Val script, a unique writing system developed in Liberia in the 19th century and still in use today.
Blood Transfusion
In 1989, Col Oviemo Ovadje (retd), a Nigerian medical doctor, saw the pressing necessity for a dependable and effective blood transfusion service and invented the Emergency AutoTransfusion System (EAT-SET). This invention provides patients suffering accidents, surgeries, or medical conditions, require immediate blood transfusions.
Africa’s inventiveness and capacity to address global issues are demonstrated by the numerous ways in which African inventions have influenced modern life, ranging from engineering and finance to medicine and communication. As technology advances, Africa continues to lead the world in ground-breaking discoveries.
