Tripoli, Libya – Eight people were killed and 20 others injured in a serious traffic accident involving a bus in the eastern Libyan area of Al-Loud on Sunday, according to the Libyan Ministry of Health.

The bus, carrying 40 passengers, was involved in an accident on a highway. The Ministry of Health released a statement on its official Facebook page confirming the casualties and stating that the Minister of Health was closely monitoring the condition of the injured.  

The Ministry has instructed its central operations chamber to coordinate with medical agencies to ensure the injured receive the necessary medical care.

The Minister of Health also issued a public appeal, urging all drivers to adhere to traffic rules and guidelines to prevent such tragic incidents.  

Libya has one of the world’s highest road traffic fatality rates, with 34 deaths per 100,000 people recorded in 2024.  

This latest accident underscores the critical need for improved road safety measures in Libya, including better road infrastructure, driver education, and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
