Senegal is set to receive a significant boost to its vaccine production capabilities with a $45 million investment from the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The funding will support VaxSen, the vaccine production and distribution branch of the Pasteur Institute in Dakar.
The announcement was made on December 13th, during a signing ceremony attended by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
This strategic partnership spotlights Senegal’s growing leadership in improving public health across Africa.
The funds will help expand local vaccine production, improve supply chain logistics, and strengthen vaccine distribution networks, contributing to the African Union’s Vision 2040, which seeks to have Africa produce 60% of its vaccine needs locally by that year.
