The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has identified 3,690 Nigerians among the 1,445,549 non-citizens slated for deportation under its current immigration enforcement operations. This data, detailed in the document titled “Noncitizens on the ICE Non-Detained Docket with Final Orders of Removal by Country of Citizenship,” provides a breakdown of individuals by nationality who have received final removal orders.
According to the document, Mexico and El Salvador top the list, with 252,044 and 203,822 individuals respectively facing deportation. Nigeria ranks among the countries with a significant number of nationals subject to removal.
The intensified deportation efforts have heightened anxiety within Nigerian communities in the U.S., particularly among those residing without legal authorization. The recent executive orders signed by President Donald Trump have further fueled concerns about potential mass deportations.

In response to these developments, the Nigerian government is seeking to strengthen diplomatic ties with the U.S. to address the situation of its citizens. A research professor at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Prof. Femi Otubanjo, noted that the deportation threats stem from perceptions among some Americans regarding immigration.
As the U.S. continues its crackdown on illegal immigration, affected individuals are advised to seek legal counsel to explore available options. The Nigerian government has also been urged to provide support to its citizens facing deportation.
